Is it as Easy as 1-2-3?: Implementing Enterprise Risk Management ...

?Enterprise Risk Management, despite being on the tip of the risk and insurance world?s tongue, is still struggling to gain a foothold in most organizations.? The question that consistently emerges is whether or not implementing an Enterprise Risk Management Framework can truly add value to a company?s strategic development.? The key to a successful ERM Framework is to instill the philosophies of Enterprise Risk Management throughout the organization so the company as a whole is fostering a risk-aware culture.?

?A recent article in Risk and Insurance Management Society magazine touches on ten [supposedly] easy steps to implementing ERM into an organization.? While each of these ten steps is vital to implementing a successful Framework, a few steps stand out which are fundamental to any risk-aware company:? 1Taking inventory of what controls and processes already exist within your company; 2keeping it simple by going for the quick wins in identifying a company?s most material risks; and 3seeking help for your organization through executive support and people knowledgeable in their field.? As you might expect, taking inventory of the processes that exist in your organization and achieving quick wins go hand in hand. If you are able to successfully complete these first two steps it will allow the ERM Framework to instantly grab foothold within your organization and achieve executive benefactors. ??

?Seeking support is critical in establishing a successful ERM Framework.? More importantly, earning and receiving executive buy-in will trickle down throughout the entire organization and reinforce the company?s commitment to the ERM Framework.? It is equally important that an independent professional or group be brought in who are not only experts in ERM and risk management, but also have an understanding of your organization and are able to provide an independent view that would provide senior management with the transparency they need to improve any ERM process.?

?The ALS Group strongly believes in establishing an ERM framework in any organization. Typically our role is to work with senior management team(s) and evaluate the company?s processes and key risks.? To become familiar with an organization we do a thorough Risk Management Assessment which includes a complete underwriting summary of a company?s key risks and operational business units.? As such, this allows us to identify key risks, take inventory of successful processes that already exist within an organization, and provide complete transparency to help senior management translate these risks into opportunities.? Establishing an ERM Framework is never easy but with the right help and due diligence this will provide a 3-dimensional approach to risk that every company needs.

Princely sum paid for antique dining table | Christian Davies Antiques

Many Ribble Valley residents have a dropped-leaf Pembroke table on display; after all, it is among the most useful and affordable of all antique dining tables , fitting perfectly into the modern family home.

However, those who have an inherited dropped-leaf table in their homes should check its value carefully, as while many of the Pembroke-style antique dining tables in Lancashire are of little relative worth, older or more unusual pieces can be extremely valuable ? and their worth seems to be increasing. At a recent sale in Windsor, Connecticut, an early 19th century Federal American drop-leaf table made $36,800 (about ?27,550) ? seven times the estimated value.

The Federal period of American furniture design lasted approximately from 1789 and 1823. Neoclassical in form, and strongly influenced by Georgian, Adams and Regency styles, Federal furniture follows sharply geometric lines, with chairs and tables supported on elegant straight legs. Antique marquetry furniture makes minimal use of pictorial motifs, instead being defined by straight-cut veneers and tasteful geometric inlays.

One of the most notable designers of Federal American furniture was Duncan Phyfe who, rather than creating his own designs, reinterpreted existing trends, ushering in a uniquely American style of neoclassicism. The Windsor antique dining table was one of several Federal pieces which did well in the sale, surprising even the auctioneer, who commented it had been the most successful Federal furniture sale in five years.

Stateside trends tend to get repeated this side of the water, so now might be the time to invest in a neoclassical antique dining table. Ribble Valley residents can find a good selection by visiting an antique dealer.

Book Fair to bring readers, writers together | TribLIVE

The Mt. Pleasant library will be offering readers in the Fay-West region an opportunity to meet several local authors and get signed copies of their books during a Book Fair this week.

?We?d like to make the community aware of the wealth of authors we have locally, and meeting and speaking to an author should not be an unusual event,? library employee and author Barbara Miller said. ?We have had many individual book-signings at the library in the past, but this will make lots of authors available at once. It also gives the authors a chance to communicate with each other.?

In addition to individual authors, there will be several members present from writing groups in the area, such as the Beanery Writers, Scottdale Writing Group and Greensburg Writing Group.

The authors will be set up at tables located around the library. Everyone is invited to stop and talk with each writer.

?We?re hoping every patron who comes to the library will stop and talk to some of the authors about their work or to writing group members,? Miller said. ?At every table each patron will get a free raffle ticket so they may possibly win the basket of their choice. We also will have cookies, snacks, coffee and soda available in the meeting room.?

Authors expected to attend include:

? Linda Ciletti, with copies of her books ?Draegon Lari? and ?Knightstalker.?

? Brad Clemenson, with copies of his book ?Murtha War Fighting: Fighting for the Soul of America.?

? Ed Kelemen, who co-authored ?The Haunted Foothills? with Mary Ann Mogus.

? Barbara Miller, with copies of her book ?Two Hearts.?

? Bill Potoka, with copies of his book ?Love in an Altered State.?

? Cassandra Vivian, who will have numerous books she wrote including ?The national road in Pennsylvania,? ?Post Cards of the Mid Mon Valley? ?Monessen: A Typical Steel County Town,? ?The Overseers Family,? ?A Tuscan American Kitchen,? ?Americans in Egypt: 1770-1915 and ?Flavors of Egypt.?

Miller said that if the fair is well received, it may become an annual event. She noted the day would be a great way to bring readers and writers together.

?Mount Pleasant Public Library seeks to provide programs of interest to all age groups,? Miller said. ?We think it?s special to be able to get a book personally autographed to you and we hope patrons and guests will think so as well. We know there are writers who come to use the computers for their work and we?d like them to make some contacts at the fair. Writing is about communicating. We are offering an open channel for readers to speak directly to writers and ask questions about the process.?

The Book Fair will be held from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday at the library.

globalEDGE Blog: Outsourcing: The New Global Trend ...

The customer is always right. This golden rule of business even resonates with giant corporations?the consumers are the main priority, because without their support, revenue will stop pouring in. For example, if the consumer wants businesses closer to home, that?s what they?re going to get.? The distance problem has initiated a recent trend in outsourcing that can be seen in countries all over the world, most recently India and the United States.

Pressure is building from American clients of Indian companies to move state-side for faster customer support. Indian employees are needed in the United States in many IT fields in order to develop software and aid clients. Yet outsourcing is easier said than done due to President Obama?s implications of higher standards to apply for work visas. When Indian employees simply do not have access to a work visa, it forces Indian companies to hire tech workers who are American citizens or hold green cards, even though the workforce is more expensive. However, Indian companies like the American workers because when they generate employment in the U.S., it makes winning contracts with state and local governments a lot easier. In 2011, India spent $27.7 billion on outsourcing, and it looks as if this number will continue to increase in the coming years as pressure for Indian companies in the United States rises.

Access to faster customer service and rising employment in America may seem like just what this economy needs, yet it is easy to forget that the United States is also outsourcing, thus taking away American jobs. Ford Motor Company is moving more production to South America. Due to Brazilian trade limitations, Ford plans to move existing Mexican plants to Brazil to produce some if its smaller cars. This move will not only increase revenue for the company, making up more than half of all South American auto sales, but it will also increase Ford?s competitiveness. With Ford?s new production products, they will be able to produce 20% more cars, enabling them to slash prices. This will help them compete with the nation?s other top car suppliers like General Motors and Volkswagen.

Tracking outsourcing will surely be interesting as the implications to the global economy become apparent. As for now, what are your opinions on outsourcing? Should the United States continue to implement restrictions on work visas or should the government welcome foreign companies with open arms??

Four-Year-Old Brain Cancer Patient Latest Casualty of Medical ...

Cancer claimed the life of medical marijuana poster child Cash ?Cashy? Hyde after access to cannabis-based medication was cut off by a sweeping medical marijuana crackdown in Montana last summer, according to patient-oriented medical marijuana resource UnitedPatientsGroup.com.

Missoula, MT (PRWEB) November 17, 2012

Cash ?Cashy? Hyde passed away in his father?s arms this week. The four-year-old Montana boy?whose malignant brain cancer had been in remission while he received consistent medical cannabis treatments?is the latest casualty in the federal government?s war on voter-approved medical marijuana, says John Malanca, a close friend of the Hyde family, and founder of the medical marijuana information website UnitedPatientsGroup.com.

Malanca recounts the Hyde family?s ordeal: Desperate to find anything to keep their young child Cash alive, after traditional treatments and medications failed to slow the growth of the malignant tumor in his brain, Mike and Kalli Hyde turned to high-CBD cannabis oil. Cash?s cancer immediately went into remission, and he started to live a more normal life.

Cash was comfortable, started eating again, and recovered his desire to play. Here is a news story about Cash

Then, last summer, law enforcement officials in Montana came down hard on the medical marijuana industry. Rather than face the risk of being stormed by armed agents and subjected to steep fines or jail time, many legally-compliant medical cannabis dispensaries in Montana closed down.

The federal crackdown resulted in the closure of most of the medical marijuana dispensaries in Montana, and cut off the Hyde?s access to the therapeutic cannabis oil that was keeping Cash?s cancer at bay. Once Cash?s medication was cut off, his cancer came back out of remission.

?We put out a call to action, asking people to donate cannabis oil for Cash?s health?and there was a heart-warming outpouring of donors and support,? said Malanca. ?Unfortunately, by the time we got Cash the medication he needed, his cancer could no longer be controlled.?

Malanca says people all over the world are grieving Cash?s passing. He encourages supporters to mail letters to Mike and Kalli Hyde c/o United Patients Group, 336 Bon Air Center, Suite #361 Greenbrae, CA 94904. Donations to the Cash Hyde Foundation are also being accepted.

The Hyde Family has established the Cash Hyde Foundation to help prevent unnecessary loss of health and life through advocacy of progressive and responsible medical marijuana policies, law enforcement, and legislation: ?Cashy?s Law.? The foundation also supports increased medical marijuana research, cannabis health education, and pediatric cancer research.

Please make donations by check payable to the ?Cash Hyde Foundation,? care of First Montana Bank located at 3309 Brooks Street, Missoula, MT 59801.To make a donation online using Pay Pal, go to: http://www.cashhydefoundation.com/donations.php. Every donor will receive a Cash Hyde bracelet.

?Cannabis oil extended Cash?s life; he beat cancer twice,? said Malanca. ?He brought so much love to this world and so many people together. He educated people.?

Nov 19, 2012 | 12:00 AM??? Written By: Jessica T

Neither 50 Cent or Slim the Mobster are backing down from their longstanding Twitter beef, which was ignited yet again after Fif told Slim that he was getting dropped from Aftermath.

"SLIM U R dropped, you will get the call ths week.DRE's a boss nobody wants 2 tell him. It's OVER ? SMSaudio"

50's news didn't come as a shock to Slim, who confirmed that he's been off the label since October 17th, but it did rile the rapper up on Twitter. Slim continued to bash Fif with a barrage of tweets, which ranged from claiming that 50 Cent was gay, to saying that he had an affair with late music exec Chris Lighty's wife.

"Ok so now im a put some shit out there ... on my Twitterforum feddicent was having an affair with chris lighty wife"
